Michael Otremba Appointed as New Managing Director

Former Vice President of Munich Airport to follow in the footsteps of Dietrich von Albedyll as managing director of Hamburg Marketing and the Hamburg Tourismus Board

Michael Otremba is the new managing director of the Hamburg Marketing GmbH (HMG). This decision was taken on Tuesday, 8 December, by the board of HMG. Furthermore, the Supervisory Board of the Hamburg Tourism Board (HHT) plans to appoint Otremba as sole director of HHT. The vice president of advertising, media and marketing of Flughafen München GmbH will be the successor of Dietrich von Albedyll, who will have reached the official age of retirement on 31 March 2016 and devote his energy to new tasks.

Intense Selection

According to the Hamburg Ministry for Economy, Transport and Innovation (BWVI), the decision for Michael Otremba follows a long selection process, wherein Otremba particularly convinced by his combination of expertise and management skills. At the same time Dr. Rolf Strittmatter, managing director of HMG and HWF Hamburg Business Development Corporation since 1 January 2016, has been appointed as CEO of HMG, effective 1 April 2016.

Great Merits

With the departure of Dietrich von Albedyll end in March 2016, an era will end in Hamburg’s tourism marketing. Andreas Rieckhof, Secretary of State, said: “For decades, Dietrich von Albedyll has significantly influenced tourism in Hamburg. He greatly contributed to the excellent development Hamburg tourism has taken. Albedyll rendered great service to the economic strength and the prestige Hamburg enjoys in Germany and in the world. “

Hamburg Tourism To Reach New Record

For 14 years, the tourism industry of the Hanseatic city has been growing. In 2015, 5.8 million stays were recorded from January to June, accounting for a 5.6 per cent increased compared to 2014’s first six months. Overnight stays of international guests accounted for 5.4 per cent, thus the Hamburg Tourism Board. The occupancy rate in Hamburg’s hotel rose to 76.6 per cent, a record in Germany. For the full year 2015, the HHT forecasts a new record of approximately 12.6 million stays.
