Held every two years, the Hamburg Summit is dedicated to European-Chinese economic relations and is organized by the Chamber of Commerce. The conference has brought together top-class representatives of business, politics and science since 2005 to boost bilateral relations and mutual understanding between Europea and China. The Chamber of Commerce is expected to announce the exact date shortly.
Hamburg Summit 2020 to be held in 2021
The corona pandemic has prompted the postponement of the "Hamburg Summit: China meets Europe" from this November until autumn 2021, Hamburg's Chamber of Commerce announced Tuesday (May 12, 2020). The pandemic has already prompted the cancellation or postponement of several other events in Germany and abroad.

China - key trading partner
Trade links between Hamburg and China date back to the 18th century. Hamburg has maintained a city and port partnership with Shanghai since 1986. The Hamburg Liaison Office (HLO) opened in Shanghai in 1995 to boost Hanseatic interests in China and to raise the profile of the north German region there. To this day, China is considered Hamburg's strongest trading partner. Last year, some 2.6 million TEUs (standard containers) were shipped between Hamburg and China including Hong Kong. Almost every third container in the Port of Hamburg is destined for or originates from China.
