"The charging network in Hamburg will grow faster than ever now that urban and and private operators are working hand in hand," said Melanie Leonhard, Senator for Economics. HEnW Mobil operates around 1,700 of 2,300 ordinary charging points in Hamburg. The city also has around 560 rapid charging points. Around 1,200 ordinary e-charging points will be added by mid-2027. A further 2,500 charging points will be installed with Enercity Mobility, Eze Network, Qwello Deutschland, Ubitricity and Vattenfall. "We will take electro mobility in the city to a new level, make a significant contribution to the city's green future and make it easier for people to switch to e-mobility," said Nancy and Michael Valentine-Urbschat, Managing Director of Eze Network.
Hamburger Energiewerke Mobil ( (HEnW Mobil) announced plans Friday (November 22, 2024) to install 10,000 charging points by 2030 and 7,000 by mid-2027. It will join forces with five private companies to set up another 500 charging points by mid-2035 after the Ministry of Economics awarded the licence based on a public tender.

Site selection based on data analysis
Data analysis has been used to determine the sites of new charging points e.g., in customer car parks and petrol stations. The exact locations will be determined in consultation with the districts of Hamburg. The city has Germany's highest share of electric vehicles and more than 7 per cent are fully electric or plug-in hybrids. The master plan for charging infrastructure, published in 2014, has made Hamburg a pioneer of electro mobility. The city ranks first in Germany in terms of installed charging capacity per 100 square kilometres.
