A delighted Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Economics, remarked: "The decision to hold EASD 2023 in our city clearly shows that Hamburg, with its exhibition and congress centre in the heart of the city, innovative mobility concepts and convincing hosts, has a growing appeal for meeting and congress planners." The successful bid to host the meeting spells good news for the hotel and restaurant industry in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic, he added. Around 10,000 hotel rooms would be booked by delegates in October 2023.
Hamburg is to host the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) at the Hamburg Exhibition and Congress Centre in 2023, the senate announced. Good news for Hamburg's tourist industry
More events in the pipeline
Michael Otremba, Managing Director of Hamburg Tourismus GmbH, is expecting more positive developments in tourism, and noted: "At present, Hamburg has 78 other applications for events in the Meetings Incentives Conventions Exhibitions (MICE) sector, which are in the decision-making stages or are being prepared by the Hamburg Convention Bureau alone. Another 200 are being processed." After the isolation induced by the pandemic, personal meetings and experiences could trigger more travel in the business travel sector as well, Otremba added.
