Boys are more susceptible to mental illness until puberty and girls are more at risk from puberty onwards. The treatment concept foresees involving patients and their families in the therapeutic processes from the very beginning. The hospital specializes mainly in depression, anxiety, compulsive and eating disorders as well as school and learning disorders. The hospital offers a total of 48 therapy places (38 of which are in-patient and ten day clinic places). The patientsare looked after by doctors, therapists, paediatric nurses, curative nurses and educators.
The Oberberg Group has opened a hospital for child and youth psychiatry in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld, according to a press release Tuesday (April 7, 2020). This comes after the German Federal Chamber of Psychotherapists estimated that around 18 per cent of children and adolescents are prone to mental illnesses.
Treatment concept
Therapy
The children and youths are treated in individual and group sessions. Their therapy involves animals, art and music as well as sports and leisure activities. Based on an “Open Staff” concept, patients also takes part in staff meetings to establish their treatment. The hospital also provides lessons in small groups or individually for their young patients.
Historic setting
Founded over 30 years ago, the Oberberg Group treats adults, adolescents and children in psychiatry, psychosomatics and psychotherapy. The new hospital is managed by Prof. Dr. Michael Schulte-Markwort, Medical Director of the Clinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics at the University Hospital Hamburg Eppendorf. The senior physician is Hauke Staats, Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy.
