"I am glad that we will fund the work of people who work towards a liveable city for everyone. We are implementing an important part of our new regional innovation strategy to drive change in the cultural and social sectors," said Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Economics. The strategy focusing on health, climate and energy, mobility, data science and digitalisation, as well as material sciences and new materials was presented in May. Criteria for funding include the creative and pioneering character of the approach, the innovative potential of the solution and a demonstrable sustainable use. Representatives of Hamburg's social impact community will assess the applications.
New IFB Hamburg funding scheme focusing on solutions to social issues
Hamburg has earmarked EUR 500,000 for innovative solutions to social challenges in co-operation with the Hamburg Investment and Development Bank (IFB Hamburg). The grants should help make the city even more liveable after empty inner cities, social inequality and a lack of digitalisation came under sharper focus during the pandemic, according to the Ministry of Economics. Companies, universities and research institutions including non-commercial organisations now have until the deadline of July 5, 2021 to apply for funding.

The funds will be provided as part of the new “PROFI Impuls” scheme which is being launched by the Ministry of Economics and IFB Hamburg to promote an open culture of innovation. "In future, funds from the PROFI Impuls scheme will help achieve goals outlined in the regional innovation strategy. The Ministry of Economics and IFB Hamburg are providing impetus for tomorrow’s liveable and innovative Hamburg," said Ralf Sommer, CEO of Hamburgische Investitions- und Förderbank.
