Around 75 initiatives had submitted their ideas in the first round of funding. Commenting on the interim results, Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Economics, said: "I am very pleased to have an instrument like the PROFI Impuls scheme at our disposal to support your commitment to Hamburg and society." The keen interest in the first round showed that Hamburg was on the right track.
Positive interim balance of PROFI Impuls scheme
The City of Hamburg has drawn a positive interim balance of the PROFI Impuls funding scheme launched by the Ministry of Economics and IFB Hamburg in June. The scheme has so far funded eleven social entrepreneurship projects ranging from a prototype for a social-ecological participatory supermarket to a competence center for promoting mental health through sports and exercise. The initiatives receive up to EUR 50,000 each from the Hamburgische Investitions- und Förderbank (IFB Hamburg) as part of a drive to promote an open culture of innovation in Hamburg.

Ongoing support for social entrepreneurship projects
The City of Hamburg aims to strengthen social entrepreneurship as part of the new Regional Innovation Strategy (RIS). RIS "combines what everyone has in common namely the motivation to make Hamburg even more livable", Westhagemann added. The plans foresee a social entrepreneurship strategy in co-operation with established agencies and an InnoHUB as a meeting place for politics, society, business, science and start-ups. More social innovation stakeholders will be invited to apply for funding in future.
