18 September 2020
Hamburg Climate Week and "Wetter.Wasser.Waterkant" present education programmes

Around 40 movers and shakers from society, business and sciences are offering workshops and excursions during Climate Week to raise awareness of environmental and climate protection from September 21-25, 2020 outside City Hall and as part of the Wetter.Wasser.Waterkant.2020 (literally: Weather. Water. Waterfront) event in HafenCity. Some are being held interactively and online owing to restrictions imposed by the corona pandemic.

Live science slam from HafenCity

Jacob Beautemps, known for his YouTube channel Breaking Lab, is patron of the event. The YouTuber will host a workshop to teach young people how to impart knowledge on the internet successfully and to uncover fake news. Frank Böttcher, weather presenter and co-organiser of the event, and Beautemps will present a science slam which will be broadcast live from HafenCity on the Internet giving many schools an opportunity to start the week wide awake. The education programme is funded by the Ministry of Environment and Energy and Hafen City Hamburg GmbH. The offers are based on the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Sustainable energy supply

Various modules will focus e.g. on the "Biodiversity of the Deep Sea", an organic farm and include a workshop entitled "From the Rainforest to the Classroom" about species protection. Young people can learn about "sustainable energy supply" in the laboratory while another module offers role play to raise awareness of children's rights and the climate crisis.

Workshops during Climate Week will be held in exciting places, for instance, in a floating classroom on Inner Lake Alster. More information about these offers can be found and booked on the Wetter.Wasser.Waterkant 2020 und 12. Hamburger Klimawoche webpages.
