"A circular economy helps companies save resources, increase their profits and to become more resilient," said Jens Kerstan, Senator for the Environment. That requires new approaches to product design, business models, value chains and collaborations. The workshops should raise manufacturers' awareness of the circular economy and put it into practice. A company that is losing value could potentially become a new circular business. Trainers from Impact Hub Leipzig will familiarise participants with the CIRCO method, which was developed in the Netherlands in 2015, and is now being used by over 2,000 companies. Up to 20 companies can take part in the workshops. Participants will also become part of the CIRCO network of circular economy pioneers.
"Environmental Partnership Hamburg" to host circular economy workshops
The Environmental Partnership Hamburg announced Monday (February 12, 2024) a new support scheme consisting of workshops for SMEs under the so-called "CIRCO Circular Business Design Track". The scheme is being subsidised by the Ministry for the Environment, Climate, Energy and Agriculture to highlight the potential of products and business models for a circular economy.

Advancing green economy in Hamburg
"The circular economy is revolutionising production and consumption. Products are more durable and resources are used sustainably and efficiently," said Kerstan. In view of longer product life cycles and the efficient use of resources, companies should save costs and reach their sustainability goals. The study "Hamburg's Potential for Circular Business in a green economy" was presented in November 2023 as part of the pop-up Circular Hub and highlighted previous achievements and potential. However, there is still a lack of networking and support, Kerstan said. The new Environmental Partnership could seal this gap and promote the circular economy.
