Crystal Cabin Award introduces new categories in wake of corona

"Clean & Safe Air Travel" and "Judges' Choice Award" - podcast launched

Organisers of the Crystal Cabin Award 2021 have introduced two special categories called "Clean & Safe Air Travel" and the "Judges' Choice Award" in the wake of corona. Entrants can submit their innovations until the deadline of October 1, 2020. The Crystal Cabin Award will be presented in ten categories parallel to the Aircraft Interiors Expo from August 31- September 2, 2021 in Hamburg. The Crystal Cabin Award, initiated by the Hamburg Aviation Cluster, is among the leading awards for innovations in aircraft cabins and in-flight products.

Ten categories

The "Clean & Safe Air Travel" award honours innovations in health, hygiene, safety and cleanliness in the cabin. The Judges' Choice Award will be presented to an entry that would otherwise be submitted in one of the eight main categories, including cabin systems and in-flight entertainment. The two special categories are also open to students’ entries. A 30-strong jury will decide in April 2021 on the winners from 24 finalists selected in 2020. The current Crystal Cabin Award was interrupted in March due to corona pandemic.

New podcast - "Crystal Cabin meets ..."

The organisers are also launching a new podcast called "Crystal Cabin meets..” in which aviation experts and former candidates talk about their recent experiences and their views of the future. The focus first turns to Dimer UVC Innovations and Honeywell. The former was a finalist in 2017 with its “GermFalcon” concept. Its cabin trolley can be pushed through the aircraft during ground time, killing bacteria with UV light. The product is being marketed as part of a strategic partnership with Honeywell and is already being tested by airlines. Many finalists and winners of the Crystal Cabin Award have presented successful solutions for hygiene measures in aircraft cabins over the past 14 award seasons.

Crystal Cabin Award

The Crystal Cabin Award is THE international prize for innovations in aircraft cabins. A high-calibre jury consisting of academics, engineers, trade journalists, airlines and aircraft manufacturer representatives comes together under the slogan “Let your ideas take off” to honour outstanding cabin concepts and products. Initiated by Hamburg Aviation, the annual award is organised by the Crystal Cabin Award Association and has been presented at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg since 2007.
