The Finkenwerder Innovation Park focuses on advancing the aviation industry in Hamburg. At its core is the aerospace corporation Airbus together with the Center of Applied Aeronautical Research (ZAL TechCenter). This is both an incubator and a technology centre. In addition, there is a partnership with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) at the Finkenwerder Innovation Park. Facilitating research and development under one roof and along the aircraft value chain, the innovation park promotes networking and collaboration through the joint use of infrastructures and close geographical proximity.
ZAL has more than 26,000 square metres of halls as well as lab, office and research infrastructure available to research institutions, founders and established companies; a further extension of the building is already in the planning stage.
Besides the two newly established DLR institutes (one for maintenance and modification, and one for system architectures in aviation), the Hamburg-Finkenwerder Technology Centre (THF), the two Airbus Technology Parks (ATP 1 and ATP 2) and the Airbus BizLab provide an established infrastructure. Numerous other tenants from industry and science make use of the networking and collaboration opportunities available at the Finkenwerder Innovation Park, and thus the immediate surroundings have almost reached full capacity.
