"The demand for intensive care units especially during the pandemic is high across Germany," said Prof. Dr. Stefan Kluge, Director of the Clinic for Intensive Care Medicine at UKE. Apart from sufficient beds, therapy also requires specialists who can treat a particular illness. This is where tele-intensive medicine can alleviate the situation.
"Intensive care patients can stay in less specialised hospitals and still benefit from the knowledge of our UKE experts," he added. UKE's consultants are connected to the patient's bedside in other hospitals in real time per video. "We are convinced that tele-intensive medical rounds will be part of everyday hospital life after the pandemic," said Kluge.
