Photopia Hamburg to make city capital of photography

Photography trade fair targeting broad audience in September - plans to co-operate with OMR and Reeperbahn Festival

PHOTOPIA Hamburg is gearing up to make the city Germany's capital of photography from September 23-26, 2021 under the motto of "Share Your Vision”. Hopes are now high that the unique, innovative concept of this latest trade fair will see Hamburg become the the imaging industry's new home, according to Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH. PHOTOPIA Hamburg consists of the "PHOTOPIA Summit", where new products and services can be experienced in an exciting environment, the "PHOTOPIA Festival" with exhibitions and hands-on activities such as photo walks and photography, video and imaging workshops across Hamburg, and PHOTOPIA 365, an online platform for talks and information.

New target group - smartphone users 

Commenting on this latest trade fair, Bernd Aufderheide, CEO of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH, said: "We firmly believe in the future and the growth potential of the photo, video and imaging industry, and we aim to offer it a new home at PHOTOPIA." The partners include the Online Marketing Rockstars (OMR) Festival, the Reeperbahn Festival and the Photo Industry Association. Exhibitors from across the imaging spectrum including software and technology companies as well as start-ups will present their latest products and services in Hamburg.

Apart from professional and amateur photographers, retailers and fans, PHOTOPIA is also eyeing the large group of mobile phone users who snap photos every day. Falk Friedrich, Managing Director of Leica Camera Deutschland, said: “For Leica, this festival is the ideal mix of user experience, photo culture and retail." The highlights include the presentation of the Technical Image Press Association (TIPAWorld Awards 2021 during the fair. Presented since 1991, the awards are a benchmark for the industry as well as amateur and professional photographers all over the globe.

Creative synergies with Reeperbahn Festival

The creative city of Hamburg offers the ideal setting for PHOTOPIA Hamburg, according to the organisers. The Reeperbahn Festival, Europe's largest club festival, is taking place at the same time with plenty of opportunities for snapping exciting motifs and creating synergies with young, urban target groups. The agenda includes workshops on concert photography and exhibitions in a festival village on the Heiligengeistfeld. The NEXT Conference, one of the most important digital industry meets of decision-makers, visionaries and creatives from all over the world, will take place at the same time. After this first PHOTOPIA Hamburg in September, the trade fair will be held annually at the exhibition centre and as an accompanying festival throughout the city of Hamburg in the coming years.
