Organisers of Hamburg Cruise Days 2017 expecting record numbers

75 per cent of visitors intend coming again next year

The organisers of Hamburg Cruise Days 2017 are anticipating record new shipping companies taking part in the three-day event in September. Then, 10 ships, three more than in 2015, will excite onlookers. Also, 75 per cent of last year’s visitors to the cruise days intend coming again in 2017, according to a survey of visitors last year. Some 60 per cent of the 570,000 guests in 2015 had travelled from further afield and most stayed overnight in Hamburg. 

AIDA Cruises, MSC cruise & co

AIDA Cruises announced the prolongation of its premium parntership with Hamburg Cruise Days during the international ITB tourism fair in Berlin. Felix Eichhorn, President of AIDA Cruises, praised their collaboration, saying: “Together, we have turned the Hanseatic city into one of the most important cruise ship cities in northern Europe.” 

Other large shipping companies are also set to take part again next year. MSC Kreuzfahrten, Costa Kreuzfahrten, TUI Cruises and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises are all tried and tested partners of Hamburg Cruise Days and will have their own ships and island themes in 2017. Two new shipping companies, Silversea Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line, will join the events in 2017. Then, Plantours ships will present a river cruise ship for the first time.

Overlapping with Seatrade Europe

Thorsten Kausch, Managing Director of the Hamburg Convention Office, said: “The Hamburg Cruise Days are a real magnet for cruise ship fans and the perfect stage for the cruise ship economy.” He added: “At the same time, they are a catalyst for successfully positioning the Haneatic city as a cruise ship destination and as an international meeting point for the sector. The entire value-creation chain is unimaginable without this platform.”

The Hamburg Cruise Days 2017 will be held from September 8 -10 and will coincide with the international Seatrade Europe fair from September 6-8, 2017.
