The agenda for 2022, which was drafted closely along the lines of strategy revised in 2020, was also presented. Emphasis is on the strategic theme of sustainability: "The MCN will devote itself intensely to this topic beyond 2022," said Jessica Wegener, Managing Director of MCN. "That means consistently taking into account the three pillars of ecology, economy and social issues as guidelines for MCN's sustainability activities."
Increased membership numbers, a revised strategy and sustainability topped the virtual general meeting of the Maritime Cluster Norddeutschland (MCN) attended by 100 delegates in early September.
Sustainability - strategic theme
Driving SMEs' green innovations
MCN aims to develop sustainable, green innovations across Europe via the "Green Offshore Tech" project launched in September. "The focus is on SME members who come up with innovative means of achieving the Green Deal in the maritime sector," said Wegener. "We are making an important contribution to EU Commission's 'Fit-for-55' plan," which foresees a 55 per cent cut in harmful climate gases by 2030 over levels in 1990. The first MCN Cup will be presented on November 23, 2021 in four categories. Emphasis is one the opportunities and potential for sustainability along the entire maritime value chain.
