New 5G event in TIP Innovations Park Nordheide

Companies across Hamburg Metropolitan Region to explore potential of 5G technology

The new 5G Community Nordheide will launch Thursday (September 5, 2024) a new event series in the TIP Innovations Park Nordheide in Buchholz to advance digital transformation across the region. The Harburg Economic Development Agency (WLH) set up infrastructure designed especially to meet companies’ needs there in 2023. The 5G Community Nordheide familiarises companies in the metropolitan region with diverse applications and opportunities of modern technology.

Testing cutting-edge technologies

"We offer simple and low-risk access to 5G and our mobile network, automation and technology experts, universities and colleges. This reduces complexity from a business perspective,” Timo Maurer, Innovation Manager at WLH, previously told the Kreiszeitung Wochenblatt newspaper. The 5G Campus is considered the most powerful of its kind in Germany and enables companies and universities to test state-of-the-art technologies and process data in real time. Examples of practical applications will be presented in a first online roundtable on 5G technology. It will shed light on the fields of application, outline possibilities for the entrepreneurial use of the modern 5G test lab as well as funding opportunities. Christoph Söhnlein, Managing Director of Accelery, will present a best-practice example of automation in production. The event is free of charge. Registrations are being accepted at info@wlh.eu or on the website.

Co-operation and knowledge transfer

The 5G-Community Nordheide boosts interaction between companies and research institutions. Scientists and practitioners work closely together to develop and test innovative solutions. This includes e.g., a collaboration with the Private University of Applied Sciences for Business and Technology (PHWT), which is advancing the "Digital Orbit" project for digital education in the TIP Innovations Park. The events are designed to strengthen collaborations and help SMEs seize the opportunities of technological developments for their businesses.

TIP Innovation Park on growth course

Earlier this year, PHWT opened a second virtual reality centre. A prototype drone that transmita data oll over the 5G campus network was also successfully tested as part of the USIN5G project. The drone, operated by long-range drone experts Beagle Systems, provides aerial images and videos of the TIP Innovations Park, collects weather and environmental data, and records damage to buildings.
