"Hamburger Energiewerke is laying the foundations for a successful energy transition in our city, helping us to achieve our ambitious climate targets. Merging Gasnetz Hamburg and Stromnetz Hamburg was a good decision for providing our city with affordable, climate-friendly energy," said Katharina Fegebank, Senator for the Environment, Climate, Energy and Agriculture. In 2024, Hamburger Energiewerke invested significantly in upgrading the electricity grid with more powerful cables and digitalisation, with around €440 million earmarked for the expansion of the electricity infrastructure this year. In addition, 15 kilometres of Hamburg's hydrogen network (HH-WIN) are being built south of the Elbe. The first 40 kilometres are due to go into operation in 2027. Another 20 kilometres of the hydrogen network are to be added by 2031.
