Hamburg to host first "Metal Summit“

7 January 2021
Summit to focus on the metal community’s view of socio-political topics

The metal scene is gearing up to host its first ever "Metal Summit" Thursday (January 14, 2020) in Hamburg with emphasis on socio-political issues and especially the value of culture to the state. The issue has gained even more urgency amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The importance of preserving a lively and diverse cultural life for the common good - and ultimately for democracy has also arisen. Although the summit is not open to the public due to the pandemic, a live stream of events will be broadcast from the Carl Konferenz- und Eventtechnik studios in Hamburg from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Reinhold Beckmann to present Metal Summit

The impact of the corona crisis on artists and SMEs in the cultural and creative industries will top the agenda. Emphasis will be on the government's existing support programmes. The summit will be chaired by TV presenter Reinhold Beckmann. The expected guests include Dr. Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media, Hans-Jürgen Papier, long-time President of the German Constitutional Court, the author Nina George and Thomas Jensen, co-founder of the Wacken Open Air Festival.

Event to be broadcast on internet

The organiser Metality e. V. terms itself "an association of metal enthusiasts" and is committed to respect, tolerance and participation. The members all love loud music and aim to build a network of metalheads that supports weaker members of society. Udo Röbel, a member of Metality, said: "Our long-term goal is to establish the Metal Summit as a loud voice that cannot be overheard in social discourse."
