The agreements come as the Port of Hamburg prepares to become a European hub of hydrogen logistics. A co-operation agreement was signed with the Chilean Ministry of Energy on establishing a strategic trade corridor for green hydrogen. That was preceded by an agreement sealing closer co-operation on importing and export green hydrogen with Uruguay. Diplomatic relations with Argentina are to be expanded in terms of urban development and climate protection. Tschentscher also reached an agreement with the Argentine Ministry of Technology on closer scientific co-operation as well as hydrogen trade relations.
The City of Hamburg has signed agreements with Chile, Argentina and Uruguay on importing hydrogen and establishing an international hydrogen sector. This came during a trip by 20-strong delegation, headed by Dr Peter Tschentscher, Mayor of Hamburg, to Santiago, Buenos Aires and Montevideo from August 22-27. Tschentscher also met representatives of the political sphere, commerce and science to discuss the expansion of infrastructure to import hydrogen via the Port of Hamburg.
Plans for closer co-operation between ports
Deepening economic relations
"Green hydrogen is a key carrier of the energy transition and an important economic and industrial field. Hamburg aims to become a leading centre of hydrogen imports and trade in Europe. We need good partners across the globe to achieve that goal. Chile, Uruguay and Argentina have the best conditions for producing green hydrogen and are pursuing ambitious strategies for hydrogen exports," Tschentscher added. Great interest had been shown in co-operating with Hamburg, the port and companies in the hydrogen sector. The City of Hamburg already has long-standing trade relations and collaborations with the three countries.
