Airport operator sets up to branch to build Heidmoor wind farm - move towards "Net Zero 2035"

Hamburg Airport has announced plans to build its own wind farm near Kaltenkirchen in Schleswig-Holstein at a cost of EUR 70 million. To this end, the airport has founded the Sustainable Energy Solutions (SES) to build the wind farm as part of its "Net Zero 2035" climate protection strategy. That ensures a supply of renewable energy from 2027/2028 as part of the airport's efforts to achieve zero CO2-emissions by 2035.

Wind farm to cover airport's energy needs

"By setting up SES, we indicate that we are wasting no time in making Hamburg Airport energy self-sufficient  thanks to wind power as quickly as possible," said Johannes Scharnberg, Managing Director  of SES. Scharnberg and David Liebert, Head of Property Management, have managed SES since June 2023. The wind farm in Heidmoor should ensure a regenerative and independent supply of energy for the airport following the transfer of land to SES. The company will then erect six wind turbines on the site to generate electricity for over 100 buildings and the entire airport infrastructure. By founding SES, Hamburg Airport should be able to keep to the construction schedule.
