Elbphilharmonie launches 2020/21 concert season

1 September 2020
Performances resume after five months - special features this season, tickets for October concerts available

The Elbphilharmonie is set to resume concerts from September 1, 2020 after more than five months. The 2020/21 concert season features shorter concerts and twice nightly performances. Restrictions on guest numbers and hygiene concerns amid the corona pandemic mean the concert halls can use only about one third of their audience capacity.

First test concerts in the Grand Hall

Two concerts were recently held in the Grand Hall as part of a test. The audience took their seats to follow a performance by jazz pianist Julia Hülsmann with vibraphonist Christopher Dell and trombonist Nils Wogram. Masks had to be worn in all aisles in the concert area. In future, guests must keep a minimum distance in the concert hall, the plaza and lobby, but do not have to wear a mask.

Tickets for October concerts available

Many of the concerts in September are already sold out. However, tickets are still available for some concerts including guest performances by the Ensemble Modern and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra conducted by Sir George Benjamin and featuring soloists Anna Prohaska and Pierre-Laurent Aimard. Tickets for October will go on sale on September 1 on an "order now, pay later" basis
