A lights show by the artist duo, DRIFT, during the anniversary week will expand the Elbphilharmonie's understanding of culture beyond sound. DRIFT promises a performative outdoor sculpture that creatively comments on the building and ts surroundings and inner, musical life. The installation will be carried out with the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe.
The Elbphilharmonie is gearing up to celebrate its fifth anniversary on January 11, 2022. Almost three million visitors or triple the number of concertgoers have attended a concert in one of its two halls since it opened in 2017. The Elbphilharmonie will mark its anniversary from January 9-17, 2022 with a week of concerts in all genres and a lights show by the Dutch artist duo DRIFT.
The oratorio "Arche" by Jörg Widmann, which premiered in the Elbphilhrmonie's Grand Hall five years ago, will launch the anniversary celebrations on January 9, 2022. Similar to the opening in 2017, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra will perform contemporary music conducted by Alan Gilbert on January 11, 2022. The jazz saxophonist Charles Lloyd, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Berlin, the resident Ensemble Resonanz and the Elbphilharmonie's Audience Orchestra will also give concerts while Iveta Apkalna, the Elphilharmonie's titular organist, will offer belated congratulations with a performance on January 31, 2022.

An overview of the anniversary celebrations can be found on the Elbphilharmonie's website. Advance sales for most of the anniversary concerts began on November 16, 2021. Tickets for the opening "Arche" oratorio will be available from December 6, 2021. Tickets for the anniversary concert on January 11, 2022 are not available. The Elbphilharmonie will be giving away some of the tickets on its website from December 13-19, 2021.
