According to the European Innovation Scoreboard, Hamburg is one of Europe’s leading innovation hubs - with the most positive development of all German regions since 2017. This momentum is no coincidence, but rather the result of a clear strategy by the Hanseatic city: promoting networking and creating spaces where knowledge can be turned into innovation. To this end, the municipal investment agency and economic development agency Hamburg Invest is developing four innovation parks and districts in the immediate vicinity of anchor institutes, research facilities and innovative companies.

A bird's eye view of Altona Innovation Park

Altona

As part of Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld, the Altona Innovation Park is being developed around the Helmholtz Centre German Electron Synchrotron (DESY) and the European XFEL. It is a unique ecosystem offering attractive space for life sciences, nano and laser technologies, materials sciences and quantum technologies.

Bergedorf

The Bergedorf Innovation Park, covering anarea of around 26.5 hectares, is being developed with a long-term perspective. The anchor institutes are HAW with its Life Sciences Campus and Energy Campus, Fraunhofer IAPT and the Fraunhofer IWES test rig. Körber Technologies is building its new corporate headquarters for around 2,200 employees here by the end of 2026.

Finkenwerder

The largely developed Finkenwerder Innovation Park is dominated by aviation research and development - with Airbus as the anchor company, the two DLR institutes and facilities belonging to the Technical University of Hamburg. The Centre for Applied Aviation Research (ZAL TechCenter) serves as both an incubator and a technology center.

Harburg

The Harburg Innovation Quarter is impresses with its high level of momentum and continuous growth in the field of research and technology. The anchor institutes TUHH, the Fraunhofer Centre for Maritime Logistics and Services CML and the German Aerospace Research and Technology Centre DLR offer excellent conditions for knowledge transfer.

Förderbank Hamburg - Your partner

The innovation agency of the investment and development bank promotes innovation in research, development and technology transfer. IFB supports particularly innovative ideas from companies and start-ups with grants, equity capital and low-interest loans. The IFB Advisory Center is the funding advisory center in Hamburg.
