Hamburg presented as hydrogen centre and ITS host in Hanover

12 April 2021
World’s leading industrial trade fair goes digital

The Hannover Messe gets underway Monday (April 12) through April 16 after a year's intermission and will see the world's leading industrial fair go digital this year. The Hanseatic city is presenting itself under the motto of “Future. Made in Hamburg” and as a leading centre of hydrogen and host of the 2021 ITS World Congress for forward-looking, intelligent mobility and transport networks in October. Anyone who wants to go "live" to the trade fair in Hanover can find all kinds of information about panels, hydrogen and mobility on www.hannovermesse.de/aussteller/his-hamburg-invest-service/S560991

Commenting on the trade fair, Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Economics, said: “Decarbonising industry, developing a green hydrogen economy and promoting smart mobility are among Hamburg’s top priorities. We look forward to demonstrating this in front of an international audience and engaging with partners from industry as well as representatives of other cities and metropolitan regions. The issues caused by climate change are global and can only be solved together."

Digital roundtable talks with links to Hamburg

Speaking during the run-up to the fair, Dr Rolf Strittmatter, Managing Director of both Hamburg Invest and Hamburg Marketing, the organisers of Hamburg's digital presentation, said: “The coronavirus pandemic poses major challenges for the economy and the exchange between science and business. This year’s digital ‘Hannover Messe’ aims to connect some of the brightest minds of tomorrow’s key industries. As part of seven digital round-table talks, we will be highlighting Hamburg’s innovative power.”

Six such talks with industry representatives will focus on "H2 Strategy", "Infrastructure", "Port, Logistics and Shipping", "Aviation", "Production and Industry" and "Hydrogen Import" and will be moderated by Heinrich Klingenberg, a hydrogen expert at Hamburg Invest. The upcoming ITS World Congress will take centre stage during a later round-table discussion.

Green hydrogen hub

To start this year’s event, Jan Rispens, co-ordinator of the Hamburg Hydrogen Network and Westhagemann will present their concepts for a self-sustaining hydrogen sector. This comes against the backdrop of a recent OECD study confirming northern Germany’s great suitability for developing a green hydrogen sector. Hamburg counts among the European regions with vast expertise in the production of hydrogen and its use in various economic sectors. Moreover, as a logistics hub and major industrial location, Hamburg offers ideal conditions for advancing green hydrogen. This is further strengthened by connecting hydrogen with Hamburg’s high-performance electricity grid large parts of which are being prepared for hydrogen usage.

Hannover Messe Digital Edition

The Hannover Messe Digital Edition is a knowledge and networking platform for industry, energy and logistics based on the pillars of “Expo, Conference and Networking”. Under the theme of "Industrial Transformation", several pioneers will present their technologies and ideas for factories, energy systems and supply chains of the future. The main topics include digital platforms, Industry 4.0, IT security, CO2-neutral production, AI, lightweight construction and Logistics 4.0. Conferences and forums complement the programme. Indonesia is this year's partner country.
