The season opens on a distinct and doubly French note featuring the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra conducted by its first guest conductor Krzysztof Urbański with works by Maurice Ravel and Guillaume Connesson on September 1, 2018. Then on September 2, 2018, HamburgMusik opens its season with the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique conducted by its founder Sir John Eliot Gardiner and starring the mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and an exclusive Berlioz programme.
First class music and several debuts during upcoming season
HamburgMusik is offering yet another full programme of first-class music at the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle during the 2018/19 season, a press release said Thursday (May 3, 2018). The third season at the Elbphilharmonie will focus on Poland, Venice, Teodor Currentzis, Olga Neuwirth, Charles Ives, Sir George Benjamin and Laurie Anderson. The Elbphilharmonie will host a total of 700 events in the coming season.
HamburgMusik is organising around half of the 30 guest orchestral performances itself, including concerts by the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra London and the Philharmonic Orchestras of Vienna, Berlin and Munich. Teodor Currentzis takes to the conductor’s podium for a grand total of seven concerts, while Sir Simon Rattle and Andris Nelsons will conduct three concerts each with various world-class orchestras. The Lux aeterna music festival for the soul, celebrates its fourth edition in February 2019, while the Greatest Hits festival of contemporary music is being organised jointly with Kampnagel and NDR. During the 4th Hamburg International Music Festival all eyes will be on György Ligeti, one of the most inspiring and influential composers of the 20th century. Tickets for most concerts can be ordered until May 25, 2018 before sales of individual tickets start on June 21, 2018.

Debuts at Elbphilharmonie
Several leading European orchestras including the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by its long-time chief conductor Daniel Harding (November 16, 2018) are set to debut at the Elbphilharmonie next season. Hungary’s Budapest Festival Orchestra conducted by its chief conductor Ivan Fischer will perform works by Bela Bartók on March 25 and 26, 2019. Music lovers will also have another opportunity to hear works performed by the Munich Philharmonic on January 21 and 22, 2019, the Philharmonia Orchestra London on January 30, 2019 and two concerts by the Berlin Philharmonics on February 17 and June 27, 2018 as well as two by the Vienna Philharmonic on April 8 and June 5, 2019.
Music from Poland and Venice
Poland is celebrating the 100th anniversary of independence this year. HamburgMusik and NDR are seizing the opportunity to pay tribute to Polish music, composers, orchestras and soloists on this occasion. Lesser-known Polish composers including Karol Szymanowski, Witold Lutoslawski and Krzysztof Penderecki will also be featured and of course the music of Frédéric Chopin as well. The spirit of the HamburgMusik festival next Easter will be hear Venice and live! The Venice festival opener overlaps with the portrait of the composer Olga Neuwirth. The Parisian Ensemble Intercontemporain conducted by Matthias Pintscher will perform Neuwirth’s “Le Encantadas o le avventure nel mare delle meraviglie” on April 18, 2019.
A maximum of 20 tickets per person and four per concert can now be ordered online until May 25, 2018. Tickets will be sold at random, if orders surpass the number of seats available. Sales of individual tickets begin on June 21, 2018. A quota of tickets for concerts including those for which the online ordering process has begun will be retained online on www.elbphilharmonie.de and will be sold from 6 pm on June 21, 2018.
